development, protecting 55% of the site in its natural state.
  • Overseen major community centre construction, sticking to the 2005 budget of $38.8 million (in this tough construction climate, the budget is 1% over), while developing a ground breaking partnership with Vancouver Coastal Health, and establishing an independent board of West Vancouver citizens to budget for and manage the new facility.
  • Achieved 2010 Venue City status through community leadership and private fundraising, for the benefit of all.
  • Introduce zoning bylaw changes to protect neighbourhood character, with more work to come.
  • Attracted Translink investment to provide community shuttles.
  • Attracted significant provincial funding for dedicated cycling route, atrium funding at the community centre, renovation for 36 new childcare spaces, policy development to
provide greater accessibility in the community for those living with disabilities.
  • Opened up local government through citizen leadership on working groups, holding open Council workshops, providing live streaming of Council meetings, delegating more minor items to staff, and adding routine matters to a consent agenda.
  • Developed strong working relationships with School District 45, the Chamber of Commerce, the Kay Meek Trust, the North Vancouver Mayors, the Squamish Nation, and our provincial government.
  • Protected the heritage of the Gleneagles Golf Clubhouse, Hollyburn Lodge and the BC Binning House, as well as created West Vancouver’s first heritage registry, with 33 homes registered, and well over 100 more in process.
  • Proactively worked with the community on emerging issues such as unworkable bylaws for dogs, childcare policy development in the face of a daycare closure, replacement of the Almondel Bridge and the need to ensure adequate reserves for future bridge replacements.
